Welcome to my portfolio website. I have created this website as a means to display my growth as a learner in the UOIT Master of Education program. Over the past three years I have been launched into a journey of enlightenment, growth, and self-discovery.
As an Associate Principal of a 7-12 school, I strive to make my students’ time in my school as meaningful and purposeful as possible. This however is a feat I cannot accomplish on my own. I need a group of colleagues ready and willing to approach teaching in as many ways as the variety of learners within our walls. As a school, securing the benefits of steady and increasing enrollments, I want my teachers to take full advantage of the technology available to them. To harness innovations that promote the evolution of their teaching practices, and not just support traditional, outdated pedagogy.
Along with my “typical” students, those who’s cognitive and emotional levels keep them within a range where classic teaching methods satisfy their learning demands, I aim to meet the needs of my exceptional learners. I have begun to challenge my staff to look to the curriculum and not the individual students’ deficits as the barrier to their success. Through the concepts of Universal Design for Learning I have begun to ask my staff how can we as a teaching profession redesign curriculum to remove obstacles for all students.
And finally, I seek to provide my staff with professional development opportunities that mirrors the same meaningful and purposeful time that I attempt to create for my students. Through ongoing, and networked professional development I have begun to deliver meaningful time for my staff to reflect on past practices to improve the learning environment for their students.
